Courtney Shanade Salter, also called Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as Dreamville Records' the first artist of female gender on Dreamville Records by J. Cole. Dreamville Records released her debut EP titled Pho in October of 2016 when she began getting noticed. Shea Butter Baby released her debut studio album on 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox started uploading music online in the year 2012 after she dropped her debut mixtape Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in 2013. Ari Lennox continued to upload her songs online throughout 2014, which included the self-released single Bound. The song was included in Omen's Elephant Eyes as well as in Sweat It Out on the 21st of July the 21st of July, 2015. J. Cole had her sing her songs in the direction of his Dreamville Team later that year, as he wanted Rihanna to work alongside her on some of the songs.
